Can you give me security tips for windows messenger?

hey people! today i am going to install the windows messenger
i been hearing a lot of things that makes the windows messenger unsafe.especially when i heard that i can get a virus or spyware through the windows messenger. any tips or hints that can keep me clean of those?thanks in advance.

if yer talking about windows live messenger, its pretty much the same as msn messenger, dont open what yer not sure of, carefull who you allow as a contact. but if yer talking about windows messenger, it comes with xp and vista, doesn’t need installing. and both are versions of msn messenger. clear as mud?
