Any tips to make a 133MHz 48MB computer running Windows 98 SE work faster?

Please don’t tell me to upgrade or anything. This computer has been recently bought by a family member of mine. It is all they could afford and I’d like fix it up a bit for them and make it work better. I gave it 16 more MB of RAM which is all of that type of memory I had. I overclocked the Pentium processor a little 12MHz which is as far as I could with it running stable. I’d like to Get rid of things like flash in IE without having those annoying install flash things and to get rid of popup ads and even cut down on the memory that windows 98 uses. Please give me some tips.

  1. No idea, dear.

  2. the best is to remove all unnecessary programs.

  3. Probably not the answer you were looking for, but I’d go with linux. If you know how to overclock a cpu, you shouldn’t have too many troubles. Vector Linux is designed for a system with those kind of specs – however it is very up to date, and would handle things like USB better, and run faster, than windows 98.

“Easy on your system resources, should run fine with a minimum of 32mb of ram, Only reguires 950 megs of disk space for full install”

And its not hard for someone to learn how to use a web browser/e-mail/wordprocessor on linux rather than windows. I mean its not like you’d be playing games on that computer anyway.
