How do I install Windows 95 on a machine already running Windows 98 but says Win 98 needs to be reinstalled?

I got this old computer to run some older programs (games) and the machine has Win 98 already, but I went on e-bay and got an original copy of Win 95. When I turn on the computer, it boots and then, after loading Windows, a prompt comes up saying I must reinstall Windows and then shuts down. What is the easiest way to install the Windows 95 over the Win 98 that isn’t running properly?

  1. You have no choice but to do a clean install. You’ll have to format the hard drive and load Win95.
