windows 2000?
i had my pc cleaned out yesterday. they installed win 2000. i used to have 98. btw-i’m kind of computer illiterate. alot of things are missing now that i’m back on line. when we try to play on line games, it says it requires internet explorer and windows. i though that’s what i had. also, there is no game icon,as well as a few others, on my front page anymore. is this how 2000 works or am i doing something wrong here?

If someone installed 2000 it should include Internet Explorer as standard. Your original programmes will alkl need to be re-installed, unless they ran an update. Get them to do the job properly.
The reason, they probably replaced 98 with 2000 is it was because it came before the advent of the unlock keys and the licenceing, that was not near as strict as it is now.

I am a little miffed as to why 2000 and not something much more stable.
There is no doubt that XP is better than it’s predesesors.
But do not misunderstand they have all had there problems, some just worse than others.
Some of them came with different games and the likes, you may need to go to the Start and then ALL Programs and then find Games, and if you want the Icon right click and choose to Create a Shortcut to the Desktop

Hi all, I received this message when i tried to look at the local group policy setting on one of my machines (Windows XP SP3), which is joined in my domain. “Failed to open group policy object on this computer. You may not have appropriate rights. Details: Unspecified error.” note that I am local admin. It’s all started when I was troublshooting WSUS connectivity and i looked at the WinsdowsUpdate.log, the WSUS server was & WSUS status server , I tried to force the domain GP by using GPupdate /force, it went fine and asked to log off, but nothing changed in the WindowsUpdate.log still . Then i tried to look at the local policy setting. I searched the internet nothing related to my case. Thanks in advance for advising.
